The Neustadt is located between the Alster and Elbe, and is, as part of Hamburg's city, location for many institutions and companies. Publishers, radio stations, theaters, museums and cultural institutions are based here.
Arts and Culture, lstervergnügen, Fleetinsel-Festival and Hafengeburtstag (harbor´s birtday) are popular touristic attractions. The main church of St. Michaelis, Hamburg's Michel is one of the landmarks of the Hanseatic city.
Cultural highlights are the Museum of Hamburg History (Museum für Hamburgische Geschichte) at Holstenwall and the music hall (Laeiszhalle) at the Johannes-Brahms-Platz and the Hamburg State Opera (Staatsoper). The Ohnsorg theater (Ohnsorgtheater performs in the regional dialect, “Plattdeutsch”.
Between the streets Neuer Wall, Gänsemarkt and Jungfernstieg are designers and jewelers for the higher demand. Many shopping malls invite you to shop.
Around the “Großneumarkt”, in the midst of a lively bar scene as well as in the Portuguese district around the Ditmar-Koel-Straße or in the buildings around the Hamburger "Michel" the living space is rare and popular.
